June Meeting - Honey Robbing and Extraction

The June meeting will feature Guild members discussing methods of getting the frames of honey out of the hive, and then getting the honey out of the comb. The exact cast of characters is yet to be determined, but we will no doubt lean heavily on our fearless President who has almost promised to bring his own centrifugal extractor and our Secretary who will bring a bucket and demonstrate crush and strain.

This promises to be a very interesting meeting and will give all of our new members a good idea of just what kind of mess they’ve gotten themselves into.

Beginning Beekeeper Course at Temple Ambler

Vincent Aloyo has been keeping bees in our area for over 40 years. He will be teaching two non-credit courses at Temple’s Ambler Campus starting Feb. 24th. Since the MCBA beginners courses are full, and we have not started a formal program in Philadelphia yet, this is a great opportunity to learn from an experienced apiarist.

Vince will also be selling some nucs this spring, so if you’re in the market for some local bees you can contact him at Vincent.Aloyo [at] DrexelMed.edu. (replace [at] with the @ symbol)

Here is a flyer with details of the course.
