My daughter and I were watching the neighborhood bees clean the frames that I had just extracted honey from in our backyard in what really resembled a feeding frenzy. It reminded me of what you see when a hive is getting robbed out and I told her that Italian bees were notorious for this behavior. She was inspired to make this drawing for me…

David Hackenberg to speak at Honeyfest

Noted Pennsylvania beekeeper David Hackenberg will speak at the Circle of Hope movie event on Saturday evening during the Honeyfest. Mr. Hackenberg was the first US beekeeper to recognize and raise the alarm about Colony Collapse Disorder in the winter of 2006.

Well, actually they didn’t quite prove that. Here’s how they put it in the article:

Honeybees in towns and cities enjoy a more diverse diet than their rural counterparts because of the wider range of flowers…

They’re soo polite over there in the old country.

The National Pollen and Aerobiology research unit at the University of Worcester England (not Worcester Farms – sorry Jim) has done the research and proven it, at least for England. But what’s true over there is probably true here too, don’t you think?
